Wake Forest Baptist Health (WFBH) offers a one-year PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in an Ambulatory Care Setting. The resident will have the opportunity for direct patient care services in a variety of ambulatory practice settings such as within provider or pharmacist-run clinics or as part of the value-based care and transitional care team as well as inpatient and medication safety experiences in order to become a well-rounded practitioner. The PGY1 Pharmacy - Ambulatory program includes an extended orientation process to give the residents experience in their required rotations that are built as 2 longitudinal blocks (12-16 weeks each) and consist of Pharmacy Care Clinic, Downtown Health Plaza CarePlus, Population Health, Transitional Inpatient Rounding Experience (TIRE) and Rural Health. A 6-week block elective is also offered (choice of: Behavioral Health, Geriatric Inpatient Medicine, Specialty Pharmacy, Specialty Infusion, or repeat core experience). Staffing hours are completed in the outpatient retail pharmacy associated with the Medical Center. Formal projects and presentations are consistent with PGY1 objectives. A teaching certificate program is also available.
