The Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a national leader in innovative clinical care and teaching, is seeking full time candidates for a Sports Medicine Faculty Physician opening. The selected candidate will join our growing sports medicine team in our Durham, NC community based practice. The position will serve as an extension of the Sports Medicine Program Director's vision, leading and coordinating various initiatives and programs.

The Sports Medicine Faculty Physician position will be an integral part of the Sports Medicine program within the Department of Family Medicine at UNC. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Clinical: Responsible for providing sports medicine as well as primary care services to our patient population, with specific responsibilities for helping to create a running medicine clinic that will be incorporated into the existing sports medicine clinics. In addition, the position will provide compartment testing to patients that need evaluation for exertional compartment syndrome, ultrasound evaluation and ultrasound guided injections for clinical patients, and work with community programs providing game coverage.
Teaching & Education: Responsible for teaching a variety of learners, including medical students, residents, interns, and sports medicine fellows. Selected candidates will attend Graduate Medical Education meetings in the event the program director is unable to attend, and will attend yearly American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) meetings and submit materials for presentation. The faculty member will participate in all educational programs provided by the program.
Research: All faculty are encouraged to develop a scholarly interest. Clinical faculty are expected to produce a scholarly product, which may include national presentations and should include manuscript submission, at a rate of one every one or two years. Mentoring and coordinating research projects for the Sports Medicine fellows and residents.
Institutional Citizenship: All faculty are expected to work as part of the larger team to improve access, reduce cost, improve quality, and promote efficiency and better health outcomes. You may be requested to engage in community outreach and attend professional events to assist with program development and building professional relationships with referring providers. In addition, attention to timely and complete documentation, patient satisfaction, and referring physician satisfaction are needed by each faculty member in our Department.
Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with experience, plus excellent UNC faculty physician benefits and clinical incentive pay.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must be board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Med Peds. Fellowship training and/or an advanced degree (e.g. MPH) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and with a program and/or systems development. Sports Medicine research, and working with IRB processes experience is preferred. Experience teaching residents and medical students. In addition, the ideal candidate will need to possess the ability to communicate with a variety of learner groups and attending physicians and to collaborate and work in a team environment. The Departments is interested in applicants who are innovative thinkers with a research background and a collegial passion for medicine and performance. Experience with US guided procedures and fracture care.
