One Gillings MPH Coordinator for Residential MPH
The Gillings School of Global Public Health – the top public school of public health in the nation - offers a variety of professional Master of Public Health (MPH) programs under its One Gillings MPH umbrella. The MPH is the cornerstone of education in public health, priming well-prepared graduates for expanded roles in the 21st century. MPH degrees of the future will ground students in a rigorous, integrated, public health core and focus on specialized skill building in a defined area of expertise via concentrations. The MPH will also emphasize experiential learning that provides opportunities for applying and integrating concepts, skills, and interdisciplinary content. Demand for graduates with these abilities is anticipated to grow.
The Gillings One MPH includes quality residential and online programs offered in a variety of concentration areas relevant to today’s public health needs. These offerings are designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body and to fuel the public health workforce. Central to Gillings One MPH is the MPH Core, an interdisciplinary first-year set of core courses beginning in Fall 2018 and driven by latest recommendations from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) and the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The MPH Core is the foundation of both residential and online MPH programs.
The Coordinator for Residential MPH drives successful operationalization of the residential MPH, starting with launch of the MPH Core in fall 2018 and following with introduction of new concentrations and programs. This includes consolidation of our training efforts into high demand concentrations, using an engaged process across all 7 academic departments (Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Health Behavior, Health Policy and Management, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition) and the Public Health Leadership program. The Coordinator ensures that front end and back end processes, systems and teams are in place on a timely basis and is responsive to needs of key stakeholders involved with the residential MPH, including students and faculty as well as the Coordinator for MPH@UNC.
S/he works with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs to translate One Gillings MPH program strategies into new processes, systems and operations. S/he oversees ongoing operations and promotes continuous improvement in order to ensure that quality measures are met or exceeded. S/he works collaboratively with curriculum specialists and with faculty from across multiple departments to help ensure that components of One Gillings MPH, meet or exceed academic competencies and accreditation criteria.
Areas of responsibility are wide-ranging and include planning & project management, working with faculty and other stakeholders, effective communication, process and systems development and integration, budgeting and forecasting, data analysis, management of authorization processes, and supervision of others such as teaching assistants.

Master’s degree required. MPH Master’s degree a plus.
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
Understanding of processes and functions required to support degree-granting programs in higher education, including registration, admissions, student services, academic advising, cashier’s office and others.
Experience working with higher education information systems and systems integration, such as student information systems, course management systems, and web application systems.
Understanding of academic accreditation processes such as Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and others.
Experience managing budgets.
Ability work collaboratively across different organizations and stakeholder groups.
Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple tasks.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Effective public speaking ability.
Ability to interact cooperatively and sensitively with individuals from other cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles, and background.
Successful track record of managing complex projects, preferably in a higher education setting.
Supervisory experience, preferably in a teaching environment.
